Computer Requirements
This course must be taken from a PC. There are no specific computer requirements other than an Internet connection (Broadband Internet connection is highly recommended). In addition you will need to have Internet Explorer, Adobe Reader, Flash Plug-in and a Quick Time plug-in on your computer (all available through free downloads).

- Strategic Planning
The following textbooks are NOT required for this program, but are recommended by the instructor. Gatlin Education Services does NOT provide these books:

- Managers and the Legal Environment by Bagley and Savage, 5th Edition
- The Essentials of Negotiation published by Harvard Business School Press
Background
The Non-Profit Management Program is particularly well suited for anyone in the non-profit field who has recently assumed management responsibilities, anyone who is working in a non-profit organization, or anyone who wants a basic and introductory perspective on some of the unique issues facing management of a non-profit organization.
Course Goal This course examines the fundamental and introductory principles of non-profit management as well as the roles and responsibilities of a non-profit board of directors and the management team, examines the essential aspects of fundraising, and becomes acquainted with the fundamentals of the budgeting process.
Course Objectives
By completing the course, students will:
- Examine the fundamental principles of non-profit management, as well as the roles and responsibilities of a non-profit board of directors and the management team.
- Develop the basic practical and managerial skills necessary to successfully plan for operational success.
- Understand basic financial and accounting terms, even if they have no financial background.
- Know the details of the entire marketing process, including the role of ethics and technology.
- Learn the basics of employment law, compliance and regulatory requirements, as well as licensing, permits and taxes.
- Examine the foundational and introductory aspects of fundraising, and how to maximize fundraising opportunities.
- Develop a successful leadership style
- Learn the fundamentals and basics of the budgeting process.
- Gain confidence and improve communication skills.
- Explore the process of negotiating, evaluate negotiation styles and consider successful negotiation strategies for most environments..
Course Structure and Schedule
This is a non-credit course offered for 300 hours. The student can register at any time during the year. Cost is $2,095 per student. A certificate for course completion will be issued.
Upon registering, the student is given an initial six months to complete the program. If the student needs more time, they may request a six month extension at no additional charge.
Prerequisite(s)
Students should have basic keyboarding and computer skills, and be comfortable navigating the internet. They must also have an understanding of a word-processing computer program (Microsoft Word recommended), and have e-mailing capabilities.

Refund Policy
Any cancellation and refund request must be submitted in writing by the student to WVU Extended Learning. A $50 processing fee will be charged to the student for a cancellation requested before materials (books) are mailed to the student. If the student cancels within ten days after the materials are mailed to the student, then a $100 processing fee will be charged, provided the student returns the materials, within five days of the written request, in their original condition. If the materials are not returned within the specified period of time or are not in their original condition, then a $500 processing fee will be charged to the student. If the student cancels any time between eleven and thirty days after the materials ae mailed to the student, then a $300 processing fee will be charged, provided the student returns the materials, within 5 days of the written request, in their original condition. If the materials are not returned within the specified period of time or are not in their original condition, then a $500 processing fee will be charged to the student. No other refunds will be considered.
