Background
The Search Engine Optimization training series has been developed in direct response to the skyrocketing growth of the search engine industry. No longer the territory of geekdom, search has exploded into the mainstream over the past few years and businesses are falling over themselves to get seen by online searchers. Search giants like Google, Yahoo, and AOL can’t fail to make money because everybody wants a bit of the search action.
Course Goal
The Search Engine Optimization series consists of the following 3 individual courses: Search Engine Optimization 101, Search Engine Optimization 201, and Web Site Copywriting 101.
Search Engine Optimization 101 will show the student step-by-step how to optimize their web site to obtain better search engine positioning on the world’s most popular search engines and directories for target keywords and phrases.
Search Engine Optimization 201 will take the student’s knowledge of SEO to the next level by teaching you how to further increase your site’s compatibility with search engines and how to optimize a web site that uses more complex design technologies such as dynamic content, Flash and tables.
Web Site Copywriting 101 will provide the student with an understanding of how to integrate your target search keywords into your site and design your web page copy so your site appeals to more visitors and encourages them to take the desired action you want them to take (e.g. purchase, sign-up or bookmark your site).
Course Objectives
After successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
- Set up, monitor and maintain successful search engine optimization campaigns for your sites or your client’s sites on the world’s most popular search engines and directories.
- Make web sites search engine compatible and designed to attract visitors who are more likely to buy or sign up.
- Prepare for starting your own search engine optimization business or applying for a job as an SEO (search engine optimizer), SEM (search engine marketer).
Course Structure and Schedule
This is a non-credit course offered for 150 hours. The student can register at any time during the year. Cost is $1,395 per student. A certificate for course completion will be issued.

Refund Policy
Any cancellation and refund request must be submitted in writing by the student to WVU Extended Learning. A $50 processing fee will be charged to the student for a cancellation requested before materials (books) are mailed to the student. If the student cancels within ten days after the materials are mailed to the student, then a $100 processing fee will be charged, provided the student returns the materials, within five days of the written request, in their original condition. If the materials are not returned within the specified period of time or are not in their original condition, then a $500 processing fee will be charged to the student. If the student cancels any time between eleven and thirty days after the materials ae mailed to the student, then a $300 processing fee will be charged, provided the student returns the materials, within 5 days of the written request, in their original condition. If the materials are not returned within the specified period of time or are not in their original condition, then a $500 processing fee will be charged to the student. No other refunds will be considered.
