 Admission Requirements

Admission to West Virginia University is necessary to enroll in credit courses, including those offered through Extended Learning. Students may apply as:

Graduate Applicants
The master's and doctoral degrees offered through Extended Learning require that students first be accepted into one of WVU's graduate schools. Follow these links to Graduate Admission Information and the Online Graduate Application Form or pdf form. Also view the Graduate Studies web site for policies and the WVU graduate catalog.

Students who wish to enroll in graduate degree courses must be officially admitted to West Virginia University before registration. Once admitted, you may enroll by calling 1-800-253-2762 until one week prior to the term in which your course begins.

Students who need to take the Graduate Record Exam should visit the Educational Testing Service for deadlines and an overview of the test.

Morgantown now has a computer-based testing center that administers many computer-based tests. The testing center is located on Pineview Drive at 6 Riddle Court. The office hours are from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Make an appointment over the phone by calling (304) 293-0699 or toll free at 800-967-1100. The cost is $99. The fee can be paid by credit card or check.

Students can order test preparation material online at www.ets.org/store.html or visit GRE online at www.gre.org.

 
 

Professional Development Students
Educators who need to take a graduate level class for their certification hours can earn professional development credit through Extended Learning. Professional Development is an easy way for students to do this, providing skill renewal and enhancement in a professional field or content area. The professional development courses are graded on a Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory grading scale and do not apply as graduate credit toward a degree program. Students who have earned a baccalaureate degree may enroll in Professional Development courses by completing a registration form through Extended Learning and by paying an application fee.

Professional Development Status is valid for only one semester and students will become inactive at the end of the semester, necessitating reapplication for successive semesters. Professional Development courses are designated with a "900" level course number (e.g. C&I 930; TE 900; COMM 900) Students must register by completing both sides of the Extended Learning Professional Develoment Registration form.

ACCESS Students
Advanced high school students may register for WVU courses through the ACCESS program and attain college credit and experiences while in secondary school.

 
 

Guest Pass Students
Are you from another college or just stepping in to WVU for a course or two? Want to take an undergraduate level class but don't necessarily want to complete an entire degree?

Prospective students may submit a Guest Application/ Registration form for enrollment in WVU Extended Learning undergraduate courses for one term of coursework. Re-submission of a Guest Application/ Registration form is required for enrollment in subsequent terms. Up to 12 total hours may be earned through this easy means of registration as a non-degree undergraduate student. The hours earned in this non-degree status may or may not count toward a degree program.

Tuition payment is to accompany the Guest Application/ Registration form. The amount of tuition and fees can be found on the Extend Learning Fee Schedule. After selecting the Extended Learning course you wish to take, please note the number of course credit hours and your status as a WV resident or non-resident in determining the tuition and fees due. Remember to attach $15 for the application fee as a separate check. You may make payment by credit card by or by sending a check for the tuition along with your Guest Application/ Registration form.
