Area of Emphasis for Regents Bachelor of Arts Students

The Regents Bachelor of Arts degree is an innovative baccalaureate degree program designed for adult students. Students may earn college equivalent credit for selected work and life experiences by writing portfolios which are evaluated by faculty in appropriate areas. While the RBA program offers no majors, students may focus their program of study with a sequence of courses known as an area of emphasis. There are 28 areas of emphasis that students can choose.

West Virginia University announces a new online area of emphasis in advertising and public relations. Both fields have a changing role in contemporary marketing. Advertising and marketing are no longer isolated functions. Businesses have united these marketing communications activities, along with direct marketing, sales promotion, personal sales and interactive media under one umbrella in order to build profitable long-term relationships with various target audiences. The challenge is knowing when to utilize each marketing communications vehicle as well as how to develop a coordinated message across all these functional areas.

Graduates will be prepared for career opportunities in:

• Advertising

• Corporate Communications

• Public Relations

• Integrated Marketing Communications

• Direct Marketing

• Sales Promotion

Students will complete a total of seven courses in the sequence and will learn the basics of Integrated Marketing Communications, which is the combination of the various disciplines.
